Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has expressed his wish for Jadon Sancho to stay at the club amid speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.
The 20-year-old forward is thought to be United’s No.1 transfer target this summer following his impressive performances in the Bundesliga, in which he scored 17 goals and created 16 assists this season.
It remains to be seen whether the two teams can agree a transfer fee, however, with Dortmund thought to be holding out for a minimum of £100m.
Speaking about Sancho on Thursday, Zorc failed to rule out the prospect of the England international leaving this summer, but said he would be delighted if he stayed for another season.
“Jadon is an outstanding footballer with a quota that I have never seen at this age,” Zorc said.
“I think it would even stand up to being one of the largest in the industry if you look at its age.
“I would be happy if he would still play with us this season. And that’s the current state of affairs.
“First of all we have to stick to the facts – and they are so, that we still have a contract with him until 2022.”
Sancho excited United fans on Thursday following a post on Instagram featuring his international teammate Marcus Rashford.
The photo included the captain “If we’re all on the same team, we’ll never be defeated” as the pair stood in England shirts.
It was interpreted by some as a ‘come and get me’ plea, and there is belief among many that Sancho is keen for a return to England following his superb spell in Germany.
The player was also pictured on a private jet with former Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom, although it is not clear where the two were going.
